Meet the Hatchlings

M E E T T H E H A T C H L I N G S

Far from the prying eyes of mortals in the deepest parts of the darkest forest, lies the Neverwood – a place where the sun never rises. There, bathed in the light of the three moons can be found a great stone circle of ancient whispering stones.

Should you cross under those stones, you will find yourself in the magical grove of the Druid Almarr. Almarr is both very old and very wise. For a long time he tended to the forest, but the stars looked down upon the old man and gave him a new purpose.

Now he takes care of the Hatchlings, tiny baby dragons with their own unique personalities, but one thing they all have in common is that are all very naughty. Poor Almarr was forever challenged by their mischief, and looking after the Hatchlings was not easy. But he loved them anyway. He has a great deal of patience, which comes in handy when dealing with the Hatchlings, as you are about to discover…

Aelorion

The Red Dragon

GRUMPY • FIERY • DEMANDING

Aelorion, the Red Dragon, is a creature of fire whose temper burns hot when he does not get his own way. Eternally demanding, he will make regal proclamations, outrageous demands, and explode into great tantrums without warning, casting red-hot motes of flame in all directions. His love of fire is only rivalled by his love for attention. No matter how hard he tries, he still cannot breathe fire or burn his enemies to the ground — which is usually Almarr for denying him third helpings of Moon Cake.

Balevor

The Black Dragon

NAUGHTY • SNEAKY • SHINY-THING OBSESSED

Balevor is the Black Dragon, the sneakiest of dragon that uses his powers to get what he wants. He’s treacherous and deceptive, and will tell little while lies to get his own way. Ownership is merely a matter of possession to this little dragon – the brighter the jewel the more he desires it. Balevor will steal the necklace from a noble, an apple from a merchant, or the crown of a king. Don’t worry, he is not evil, but is merely driven by chaos (he’ll return the things he stole – eventually).

Durilla

The Blue Dragon

GLOOMY • SENSITIVE • PROFESSIONAL PESSIMIST

Durilla, the Blue Dragon, is a creature filled with sadness. Perpetually gloomy, she lives under a cloud of sorrow. Deeply pessimistic, the glass is always half empty and all quests are doomed to fail. Very little entertains her and everything is bleak. She feels things very deeply, overthinks everything, and takes failure and insults personally. Her dragon friends treat her with great care and try to cheer her up, which is helped by the creation of Barnabas the teddy bear, given to her by the wizard Prevorio.

GiggleSnort

The Purple Dragon

CHAOTIC • PARTY ANIMAL• BLANCMANGE

Everyone has time for a little humour in their lives, and GiggleSnort embodies the life and soul of the party, GIggleSnort loves to tell jokes, to entertain, and to cast animated shadows around the walls when he’s telling his wild stories of adventures past and long forgotten. He can be found eating blancmange, and throwing the odd pie, often at Aelorion when he gets too grumpy.

Haestia

The Ice Dragon

REGAL • BOSSY • QUEEN OF COOL

Make way for the queen. Regal and cold, glacial and poised, Haestia is a queen — and she knows it. The largest of all the Hatchlings, she carries a regal quality that few can ignore. Her roar, while still incredibly cute, has a fearsome edge that can freeze a mortal to the core. This baby dragon is absolutely the queen of cool.

Kalastrion

The Orange Dragon

GREEDY • FOOD-OBSESSED • ALWAYS HUNGRY

Kalastrion, the Orange Dragon, is forever hungry. A greedy little dragon, he can easily scoff his way through his bodyweight in cakes, crisps and biscuits in a single day. His eyes are endlessly searching for the next thing to eat, and he will complain whenever his stomach is grumbling — which is usually less than an hour after his last meal. As long as he can see it, Kalastrion can teleport food to himself. Children will find their sweets disappearing, and cooked legs of lamb will vanish from shop fronts.

Solaria

The Yellow Dragon

JOYFUL • LOVING • FEARLESSLY BRIGHT

Solaria, the Yellow Dragon, is the happiness dragon. She loves everyone and sees the good in everyone and everything. She loves giving hugs and making new friends. She can conjure light to cast back darkness and shatter fear.

Vae-Ora

The Pink Dragon

MAGICAL • FAE SPIRIT • WISH-GRANTER

Vae-Ora, the Pink Dragon — whose name means “Magic Wishes” in the language of the ancient Aelvari — is not actually a dragon at all, but a fae creature from the Midnight Realm, although she is not aware of this. Being half dragon and half fae leaves her straddled between both worlds: a creature of both, but belonging fully to neither. She is considered the Amarra Valore — the wishing dragon — and it is this uniqueness that makes her so valuable, for she has the power to grant wishes to others, although they are unfocused and desperately unpredictable.

Vandergorn

The Druid Dragon

SLEEPY • GROUNDED • NATURE’S GUARDIAN

Vandergorn, the Green Dragon, is a creature at peace with nature. Very relaxed — even by Hatchling standards — this baby dragon is almost comatose. He seeks neither wealth nor fame, and instead wishes to remain in harmony with the world around him. The only power he seeks is the strength to cast back those who would harm the natural world.

Vorminaard

The Wizard Dragon

CLEVER • CURIOUS • DANGEROUSLY ILLITERATE

Vorminaard, the Wizard Dragon, is the cleverest baby dragon. He loves collecting ancient books and casting spells, which is curious because, being a baby, he cannot actually read — at least not with any great proficiency. Naturally, the other dragons depend on his magic, which probably isn’t the best idea when he can’t actually read the magic words. Let’s just say Vorminaard won’t be conjuring any fireballs any time soon…
